If your clothing was made before the eighties, check for the “Made in the USA” seal or whatever country you are situated in. On the tag there should be a union name and ID number. A great every day dress for when you still need to look stylish but don't want to be too over the top. This new silhouette from Hell Bunny features a full circle skirt with pockets and well designed bodice featuring cute cut-outs at the collar and on the sleeves. The black binding gives a nice finish. My measurements are: bust 90cms (12DD bra) and waist 69cms and the XS size fit me very well. I did originally try the small but it was a bit roomy. Love the side seam pockets!
The products I like to use are by White Sands. They have an amazing heat setting pump spray (which we apply to each section before curling with the irons) and aerosol finishing spray (used to set the finished style in place”. Their products are incredible as they can hold curl in even the most fine slippery hair. White Sands products are not sticky, they do not flake, and they can easily be brushed out and restyled with ease. Their price point is on the higher end of the scale, however we all know the rule about cheap vs expensive when it comes to cosmetic products.
Next, brush hair smooth in the back area. Backcomb the interior for extra volume and keep the surface smooth. Create soft curls with a medium barrel iron. Curl hair from the mid-length through to ends in a horizontal fashion. Set curls using pin curl clips until all hair is curled. Allow hair to cool, then release curls and allow to fall softly. Backcomb gently for a soft, voluminous finish.
Capris also came into popularity during the 1950s as everyone wanted to look like Audrey Hepburn in her latest hits. This style of pant was actually introduced by Sonja de Lennart in 1948. Many women wanted to pretend they had Italian roots by wearing black capris with a red and white knit shirt. Others chose to wear blue capris with the same shirt to pretend that they were European. I think this is my favourite Chic Star pencil dress so far! It's made from poly/elastane stretch fabric in a gorgeous midnight blue. The fabric is lovely and soft and smooth against the skin. My favourite feature apart from the lace is the ruched bust. Definitely a great dress to wear to work or for an evening out. It’s been a couple of decades since the full leather look has been a trend but this is one spring vintage fashion trend that’s making a comeback. So, make sure you have a leather look in your wardrobe to add some vintage inspired appeal into your spring and summer days. If the all-black-leather look doesn’t pull at your retro heartstrings, switch things up for a colorful alternative.
There’s something sassy about this look. The women I’ve done it on have all had such great reactions to seeing it on themselves. It’s like it gives them permission to be a bit cheeky. When you think flapper or pin-up, there’s definitely an attitude associated with it. One thing I would definitely tell my client is that this isn’t your everyday look. The outfit has to match! I’m not saying you need to wear a flapper dress or a pin-up corset, but this is a classic look and you wouldn’t want to pair it with something too modern.
Using a little light back-combing along the way if you need to, and spraying some hairspray along the way will help, guide the hair so that it starts to curl around, using your fingers to help guide the strands in place. When in position, hold with bobby pins, and if you have blonde hair, use blonde pins to ensure they’re not too visible. Black pins look very obvious sometimes and can spoil the look. Spray with hairspray, pin the remainder of the hair up, and add a scarf for a real pinup touch.
Lastly, I smoothed the front with Suavecita Pomade and finished with R+Co’s Outerspace Flexible Hairspray. In short, curl the hair with a small curling iron ans set it using a heat protectant. Tease the front into two sections and mold one side into a victory roll facing forward, and the other side into a barrel role going back. Use a lightweight pomade or wax to smooth and a flexible hairspray to set.
